As if producer Mark Burnett didn’t have enough going on! Let’s see…there’s Celebrity Apprentice…Survivor…Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader…Amnesia…My Dad is Better than Your Dad…what more could he possibly dive into?
How about The Shark Tank?
Survivor producer, Mark Burnett, has announced that he will beteaming upwith Sony Pictures Television to bring an American version of a Japanese reality TV show to fruition. The new show will be called The Shark Tank, and will be based on the Japanese hit, The Dragon’s Den.
The Shark Tank — sort of American Inventor meets American Idol, with a dash of The Apprentice sprinkled in for goodmeasure — has entrepreneurs bringing their ideas and dreams before a panel of toughbusiness moguls (Otherwise known asThe Sharks)in hopes that the pros will agree to invest money in the proposed business venture.
“It’s about seeing people squirm, either in their unpreparedness or their lies,” Burnett said in a recent interview, adding that the show should look a bit like the early versions of American Idol. “People come in with an idea they think is brilliant, and it’s awful,” Burnett said. “But then you get the truly inspired ideas, and the Sharks have a chance to fight it out.”
The Burnett/Sony Pictures alliance has been a long time coming, with Sony hoping thatthe relationshipwill helpthem satisfy theirdesire to “ramp up” their reality TV presence.
