On this week’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Ty Pennington and his team pay a visit to the Lucas family in Cullen, Virginia. Country Singer Toby Keith also makes a special guest appearance.
The Lucas family consists of Michael, Jean, and their two children. Thirty-seven year old Michael Lucas is currently serving overseas in Iraq as part on the National Guard. Before going overseas, Michael helped in the preservation of Virginia’s historical battlefields and historical landmarks. Michael owns an extensive collection of historical artifacts, photos, letters, clothing and pistols, and he wants to one day open a public museum to showcase Virginia’s notable history.
Michael’s wife Jean studies ancestry and genealogy research. Michael and Jean’s two children are eleven year old Michael Henry and seven year old Joseph Nathan. Both of their children suffer from autism spectrum disorder. Jean is attempting to obtain a grant to open a Sensory Playground Facility for autistic children.
The Lucas family purchased land that was one of the most famous battlefields of the Civil War. Michael is writing a book about the Battle of High Bridge, which took place on the land. The Lucas family had started to build a home on the land, but Michael was sent overseas before it could be completed.
Ty Pennington, the designers, local builder Ken Broadwater Homes and hundreds of volunteers will rebuild the Lucas family. The design team includes Michael Moloney, Paul DiMeo, Rib Hillis and guest designer Phyllis Bowie. While the rebuilding is taking place, the Lucas Family will vacation at Walt Disney World. Toby Keith will also give a special performance of “American Soldier” for the family and the Virginia National Guard at the Virginia National Guard Farmville Armory in Farmville, VA.
Extreme Makeover Home Edition airs on Sunday, March 2 from 8 PM to 9 PM ET on ABC.
