On this week’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Ty Pennington and his team pay a visit to Silver Springs, Nevada to help the Boettcher Family. The Boettcher family consists of Steve, his wife Mary, their daughter Stephanie, and her son Joshua. Steve Boettcher is a minister, who spreads the word of God with his motorcycle.
Steve Boettcher has found that bikers respond better to preaching when it comes from “one of their own.” Instead of being limited to the confines of a traditional church, Steve started “Soul’d Out Ministries.” His organization helps to create charity rides for Multiple Sclerosis, holiday toy drives, and more. Steve reaches out to all bikers including cops, probation officers and riding clubs such as the Hell’s Angels.
In addition to his ministry, Steve also works as a garage door installer. Steve’s wife Mary is a prevention strategist for a non-profit organization. She goes to schools in order to teach kids the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Because they realized that teens in their community were averaging three deaths a year to alcohol and suicide, Steve and Mary decided to turn their garage into a teen community center. In this safe haven, teens can play pool, ping-pon, and pray.
The Boettchers also provide hot meals to 25 to 40 kids every week. Steve and Mary fund the meals themselves, and their efforts have led to many success stories. They have helped kids go to college and helped kids get clean and sober.
Steve and Mary have done all this while also raising Stephanie and Joshua. Joshua suffers from a series of medical problems, and he is due to have surgery soon.
Ty Pennington, the designers, local builder West Haven Development Group and hundreds of volunteers will build a new home for the Boettcher family. The design team includes Eduardo Xol, Tanya McQueen, Rib Hillis and John Littlefield. While their home is being built, the Boettcher family will vacation at the Hilton Wikaloa in Hawaii.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs on Sunday, March 16 from 8 PM to 9 PM ET on ABC.
