Tonightviewers sawthe first live elimination show of this season’s Dancing with the Stars, and it was a jam-packed frenzy of a show!
After a quick recap of last night, Len suggests an encore dance from The Mambo King, Jason Taylor (and partner Edyta). The two dance (and yes, it’s smokin’ again!) and then it’s on to the next big thing.
The next big thing just happens to be pretty big. How about a live performance by the Jonas Brothers? Accompanied by Dancing’sdancers, the Jonas Brothersperform a remake of the 1985 A-Ha song, Take on Me (pause for junior high reminiscence here…). Later, the band performs their new song When You Look Me in the Eyes, whipping every teeny-bopper in the crowd into a near frenzy.
But hosts Tom and Samantha must get down to the business of elimination. The first guy to be declared “safe” is Steve Guttenberg, who is shocked. “I’m just speechless…” he tells Samantha backstage.
There’s something about “The Gutte” that everyone loves. The other dancers have been known to chant “Gutte…Gutte…Gutte…” backstage as the actor comes and goes. Samantha asks around and it seems The Gutte isapparently a regular ray of sunshine. “He loves life,” Jason says. Mario adds that he hopes to see The Gutte make it to the finals (now that’s some sportsmanship right there!).
But while Steve & Anna are safe, someone is not. And that someone is Penn, who, along with partner Kim, is out. Penn stages a protest, saying, “We are not giving up!…There’s no way my dance career ends now!”
“He’s just been so much fun,” Kim says about her partner.
Next we get to catch up with our old Dancing (and daytime’s All My Children) friend, Cameron Mathison, who has donned a cape and a glittery Super-Cameron suit. He hits the streets of New York to get a feel for who’s capturing the hearts of America so far this season. We get a couple votes for Priscilla, for Adam, for…Monica Gucci?! Whatever. It’s all worth it when Cameron rips his sleeve off for a little muscle-flexing. (And, for the record, Cameron…we don’t think you have a CarollaUnibrow at all.).
Before kicking one of the girls to the curb, Tom and Samantha introduce another live act — this time the Macy’s Stars of Dance performance, the Cirque du Soleil dancers. It’s an awe-inspiring aerial routine to Meatloaf’s I’d Do Anything for Love.
There’s so much going on tonight, the cut for the women is relatively (and mercifully, for the girls) quick. Tom and Samantha announce that the woman going home tonight is tennis star, Monica Seles (and partner Jonathan). “I’m a huge fan of dance now,” Monica says as her parting words.
Next week on Dancing with the Stars:
Monday night the dancers take on Tango and Jive.
Tuesday there will be a live performance by singer Kylie Minogue.
