American Idol: Michael Johns Shocked By His Elimination

April 11, 2008 07:28 PM by Joe Reality

Michael Johns ShockedWhen it was revealed that Michael Johns had been eliminated from American Idol, the other finalists gasped and the audience booed. In a recent American Idol media call, Michael Johns talked about the audience’s reaction. Johns said, “It was pretty loud, actually. I don’t know how it came across on television. Look, it gave me solace in the fact that I stuck in there with a lot of people, and it made me feel really special, actually.”

When asked if he was surprised to be eliminated, Johns responded “I mean, of course. I would be lying to say that I wasn’t shocked. I hadn’t been in the bottom three and I thought the last two or three weeks had been my strongest. We’re in this competition and stuff can happen, and it did.”

While Simon Cowell tried to blame Michael Johns’ elimination on song choice, Johns stood by his decision. Johns told reporters, “Absolutely no regrets at all, mate.” He explained, “I think I pick songs that mean something to me lyrically and emotionally. Singing ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith with a 20-piece orchestra, I’ve said it on the show, that’s amazing.”

When asked if “Dream On” didn’t evoke the same emotion as some of the other songs, Johns explained, “No, because, as I said, I’m living my dream. That song is all about how they can struggle and overcome things, and I’ve done that for the last ten years. Living in America, this is my dream. Dream on until the dreams come true, and they’re coming true right now. That’s why I chose that song for sure.”

Instead of song choice, Michael Johns seemed to be of the opinion that maybe his elimination was due to people thinking he was safe and giving some of the votes that might have gone to him to other finalists. Johns explained, “This year more than any other year I really believe, especially with this top eight, that you can’t let the person that’s your favorite go, ‘He had a great week,’ or, ‘She had a great week,’ and I’m going to give him half of my votes and then I’m going to do the other one who didn’t do so well. Do you know what I mean? A split vote like that can happen and unfortunately, the people that you thought were going to be safe go home.”

I can’t believe Michael John got voted off American Idol! Justin Guarini, the former runner-up of AI, was just as shocked as me! I mean, he even thought Michael John would be in the top 5. I found Justin’s blog on Fancast with his predictions and inside scoop:
