Could There Be Same-Sex Pairings in Dancing with the Stars’ Future?

Dancing-with-the-Stars-Courtesy-KelseyMcNeal-ABCDancing with the Stars’ April 1st episode got viewers chuckling when Steve “The Gutte” Guttenberg did a tango with Anna Trebunskaya’s husband, Jonathan Roberts. Jokingly dubbed “The Man-go” by host Tom Bergeron, The Gutte and Roberts proudly displayed their man-on-man dancing skills on the dance floor, leaving some viewers to wonder: would Dancing ever be willing to have same-sex dance pairings in future seasons?

In a recent interview with AfterElton.com, ABC network president, Stephen McPherson, was asked whether or not ABC would consider it. He indicated that the network is not necessarily opposed to such an idea, saying he couldn’t think of a “reason not to.”

Dancing’s executive producer, Conrad Green, seemed a little more wary in his answer. While he was “sort of open to” the idea, he wondered what the “implications” might be of a same-sex dancing show.

Although The Gutte’s Man-go was a comedy hit with the audience, it didn’t save him from elimination on April 1st — a fate suffered by more guys than girls this season. Of the four celebrity dancers to be eliminated, three have been men (Penn Jillette, Steve Guttenberg, and Adam Carolla).

Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays at 8:00 PM (ET) and Tuesdays at 9:00 PM (ET) on ABC. Can’t watch the show? Catch the recap right here at Reality TV Magazine!
