Apparently there are only so many celebrities who’re willing to join the reality TV circus. After winning an intense bidding war over a revival of Circus of the Stars, ABC has decided that the show just can’t go on after all.
Seems rival network NBC has snapped up all the talent for its circus reality show, Celebrity Circus. ABC cites casting problems as its reason behind the decision to pull the plug on Circus of the Stars, despite being pleased with the way the show was coming together creatively.
NBC’s circus show can hardly be the only reason behind the star shortage on reality TV. The trend toward “celebreality” has skyrocketed, with such shows as Dancing with the Stars and Celebrity Apprentice taking the reality world by storm. With so many stars already in the unscripted primetime fray, the list of availables is getting shorter and shorter. ABC was forced to make a decision: a not-so-celebrity cast or no show at all.
NBC, meanwhile, is still planning to release Celebrity Circus, and is in casting as we speak.
