Andrew Lloyd Webber To Appear On American Idol

Michael Becker/FOXLast week, Mariah Carey appeared on American Idol and Kristy Lee Cook was eliminated from the competition. This week, famed composer Andrew Lloyd Webber will mentor the contestants.

On Tuesday, April 22 from 8 PM to 9 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed, the top 6 American Idol finalists will perform the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Just for the record, Kristy Lee Cook had planned to perform “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” if she had made it through to this week.

On Wednesday, April 23 from 9 PM to 10 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed, Andrew Lloyd Webber will give a special live performance and one of the remaining six American Idol finalists will be eliminated on the American Idol results show.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has won seven Tonys, three Grammys, seven Oliviers, a Golden Glove, an Oscar, two International Emmys, the Praemium Imperiale, the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre and the Kennedy Center Honor. Some of his best known composing work includes “The Likes of Us,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “By Jeeves,” “Evita,” “Variations” and “Tell Me On A Sunday,” “Cats,” “Starlight Express,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Aspects of Love,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “Whistle Down the Wind,” “The Beautiful Game” and “The Woman in White.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber also produced a film version of “The Phantom of the Opera,” and he is currently working on a sequel which is set to be released in 2009.
