On the Extreme Makeover Home Edition season finale, Ty Pennington and his team reach the final stop on their fifty state tour. Extreme Makeover Home Edition will be traveling to Louisiana to rebuild both a home and a church. On the two hour episode, the Usea family home in Westwego, Louisiana and the Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans will be rebuilt.
Even though Brad and Laura Usea’s home was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina, they faired better than Brad’s mother Grace who completely lost her house in the storm. Brad and Laura took in Grace and Brad’s twin brother Chad and older brother Chris.
In February of 2007, tornados caused more damage to the Usea family home and destroyed a trailer in the backyard, where Chris had been living. Brad and Chad helped rescued not only their family, but also neighbors who were trapped in their own trailer. Instead of just building one home, the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team will build three new homes on the same lot to provide the space needed for the entire Usea family.
Since 1998, the Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church has been served by Pastor Willie Walker. Pastor Walker has spent his life helping those in need, including addicts, AIDS patients, the homeless and the poor. During Katrina, Pastor Walker not only ensured the safety of his own family, but he also risked his life to rescue hundreds from the devastation.
Unfortunately, the Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church was completely destroyed in the flood waters during Hurricane Katrina. The Extreme Makeover Home Edition team will be rebuilding the church, which will serve not only as a place of worship but as a refuge for the entire community.
In addition to building three homes and a church, the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team is also putting together a coalition of builders from across the country to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. The builders include Deltec Homes, The EcoBuilders, Round House Consulting, Jones Construction, G & S Construction, Shultz Construction, Dana Dugas Affordable Homes, Inc., Barker Homes, Sunrise Homes, David W. Stewart, Inc., Rutledge Builders, Sterling Homes, Simmons Homes, Jeff Junkert Construction, Heritage Homes, Shoemaker Homes, Alure Home Improvement, Gallagher Family Homes, Denova Homes, Atreus Homes and Communities, and R.J. Moreau. The Australian vocal group The Ten Tenors will perform “Here’s to the Heroes” in honor of the builders.
The two hour Extreme Makeover Home Edition season finale airs on Sunday, May 18 from 7 PM to 9 PM ET on ABC.
