As always, the American Idol season finale offered up several laughs mixed in with all the musical performances. Some of the laughs were intentional and others were likely unintentional. Here are our picks for the funniest moments from the American Idol 7 finale.
For the funniest movie plug during the finale, the award goes to The Love Guru segment. Finalists David Cook and David Archuleta sought spiritual advice from Mike Meyers’ Guru Pitka character. The Guru told David Archuleta that soon he would have hair in weird and wonderful places, and the Guru attempted to give David Cook a shave. However, the funniest moment of the segment came when Ryan Seacrest attempted to ride the Guru’s magical pillow and nearly rode it off the edge of the stage.
For the funniest stand-up comedy routine of the finale, the award goes to late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Some of his Kimmel’s classic lines included “I valet parked outside. How much should I tip Sanjaya?” and “Paula sees the positives in performances that no one else sees. In fact if you watched a few weeks ago, you know sometimes she sees actual performances that no one else sees.”
Of course no American Idol finale would be complete without a segment devoted to some of the worst auditions. For the funniest finale musical performance, the award goes to Renaldo Lapuz. Renaldo Lapuz performed his song “We Are Brothers Forever” with a full marching band backing him up.
While Renaldo Lapuz had a marching band backing him up, the award for the funniest backup group goes to Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey, Jr. In a video performance of Gladys Knight’s “Midnight Train To Georgia,” the trio of actors played the Pips.
However, the overall funniest moment in the show was one that was likely unintentional. Near the end of the show, the American Idol top twelve finalists gave a group performance consisting of several George Michael songs. During “Father Figure,” David Hernandez was highlighted singing the line “To be bold and naked at your side.” Of course, one of the big media controversies of American Idol 7 was that David Hernandez once worked as a stripper. After Hernandez sang the line, he smiled at the camera, as if to acknowledge the humor of the situation.
