Summer’s here, and kids everywhere are turning their attention to beach trips, block parties, and watching plenty of reality TV. In addition to the normal summer fun, kids also now have the opportunity to help save the world along with American Idol finalist Brooke White.

Along with Idol Gives Back and Malaria No More, Brooke White is helping launch the “Save The World Summer” campaign. The campaign seeks to encourage kids to utilize their summer vacation in order to make a difference on a global scale.

The campaign was in part inspired by a ten year old from Illinois named Ryan Skarnulis. During his birthday party, Ryan helped raise almost $1,000 for bed nets for Africa. The “Save the World Summer” expands on this idea by suggesting kids use summertime activities to raise money for charity. As a bonus, the kid who raises the most bed nets for Malaria No More will receive two tickets to next year’s American Idol finale.

American Idol finalist Brooke White is the “Save The World Summer” campaign spokeswoman, and she wants everyone to join in helping to end malaria deaths in Africa. “This generation of American kids is the most globally-conscious and actively engaged the world has ever seen,” said Brooke White. “Malaria remains the number one killer of children under five in Africa, claiming more than 1 million lives a year including an African child every 30 seconds and I am so inspired and proud to be participating in this summer campaign. These kids amaze me and see no reason to wait until they grow up to start saving the world.”

Brooke White added, “It’s empowering for kids to learn how they can take simple steps to make a huge impact, be it through providing food for a hungry family, planting a tree to combat global warming or donating a bed net to protect a child from malaria. By learning that every individual can make a difference, they are learning what I learned through my experience on American Idolâ⬔that anything is possible.”
