The host of “America’s Got Talent“, Jerry Springer, will be hosting the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant alongside actress/singer Melanie Brown (aka Mel B). The pageant will be on Sunday, July 13th at 9pm ET (delayed PT) from the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam.
Springer said it’s a great honor to host the pagent and is happy to be doing it with Mel B. When asked her feelings about co-hosting, Mel B said she is thrilled, adding “I believe the diversity and dedication that the pageant brings inspires and empowers young women across the globe.”
Jerry Springer has hosted 17 seasons of the very popular and very “colorful” hit talk show “The Jerry Springer Show” as well as the new NBC hit show, “America’s Got Talent“. He has lead a very diverse career; Mayor of Cincinnati, lawyer, award-winning newscaster, country recording artist, TV personality, author, movie star, progressive talk-radio broadcaster, and even ballroom dancer on “Dancing With The Stars“. He is extremely popular and has been a guest speaker at college campuses all over the country, and even a special guest lecturer at Oxford University in England. Springer even performed for a week in the Broadway production of “The Rocky Horror Show Live”. Jerry Springer is definitely a cultural icon and this “new gig” is just another accomplishment to add to his list!
Mel B is most famously known for being “Scary Spice” in the Spice Girls. She is also an actress, designer and TV personality. she has been in her fair share of TV specials, shows and films and starred in the Broadway production of “Rent” which is enormously successful. Mel B was also a finalist on the fifth season of “Dancing with the Stars” and became a favorite of the fans. Mel B is working on her thirdsolo album at this time, which is estimated to be released early 2009. Her newest project though, is “The Singing Office” which will premiere on TLC later this month. Mel is the Executive Producer and Co-Host of the show. Mel B has recently become a special events correspondent for “Access Hollywood”.
There are 80 contestants from around the world participating in the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant and they will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview.
