Another Thursday, another pair of eliminations on So You Think You Can Dance as we continue to whittle down the dancers to the Top 10 when we then get to pick them off one at a time,I mean, allow them to exit gracefully from the big stage. Mary Murphy said it so well last night when she said that last year it was a bit easier at this point to know who should go home, but not this year. The competition is just that good.
The group number started out to the music of “The Dance” by Charlotte Martin and choreographed by Mia Michaels. The group, dressed all in black and white, was tremendous and any of this group could probably be dancing on The Great White Way tomorrow. Cat Deeley gave a quick intro to the judges and immediately got to the results by calling the first three couples out to center stage.
The three couples were Chelsea and Thayne, Katee and Joshua and Chelsea and Mark. Cat started with Chelsea Traille and Thayne and we quickly saw how they did last night with the Quick Step. The judges were not pleased and America agreed as they were quickly sent to ready themselves for their solos. Cat next turned her attention to Katee and Joshua, showed us their “Stuff,” as excellent as it was, and we knew they were safe, and they were. Finally, we saw the cool routine from Chelsea and Mark and America loved them as well.
The next three couples strutted to center stage and Cat got right into the good news and maybe the bad. Kherington and Twitch were first in the hot seat and we saw how they did with their Hip-Hop routine, and Mary screaming in approval. They were safe according to the vote and sent to the safe zone. Next we saw Courtney and Gev do a beautiful Rumba routine and America seemed to agree with the judges as Cat announced they were safe. Comfort and Chris, who were savaged by the judges for a loud and disjointed routine last evening, were the second couple sent to the solo zone to get ready to dance for their lives.
The remaining two couples joined Cat on stage to find out which of the two will join the other two couples for solo routines. Kourtni Lind and Matt’s comic strip character routine was showcased, and loved,by the judges and we next saw the Disco routine by Will and Jessica that garnered mixed reviews from the judges. Cat opened the envelope and we learned that, in a shocker, Kourtni and Matt were sent to the solo room to get ready to dance for their lives.
As the soloist got ready, we got to see some former alumni of SYTYCD perform a wicked Hip-Hop, Spinning, Contemporary routine that was pretty cool, actually. Cat then announced that the soloist would be performing and then we would see American Idol winner, Jordan Sparks, perform later.
The soloist performed in the order of Chelsea Traille, Thayne, Comfort, Chris, Kourtni Lind and Matt. Base on the [performances, two guys should go home and the judges will have at tough decision as Cat introduced the talented, Jordan Sparks, who I thought was lip-syncing it tonight.
So, here we are at the “Moment of Truth”,sorry, wrong show, really, the judges were settled back into their chairs and the axe was ready to fall on two of our dancers. Nigel warned all of the girls that they had been in the bottom three and immediately announced that Chelsea Traille was at the end of her road as we watched the highlights from the show for Chelsea.
Nigel gathered the guys and quickly announced, Matt, as safe because of his “Brilliant” solo tonight leaving us with Chris and Thayne. Nigel said that it was the end-of-the-road for Chris and that Thayne would have a new partner next week in Comfort.
So we are down to the final fourteen and we will see who will bring it next week.
