Thayne Jasperson eliminated

Last week, Thayne Jasperson became the fifth male dancer eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance. Comfort Fedoke was also eliminated, but she is being given a second chance due to Jessica King dropping out of the competition due to injury. In a conference call with media, Thayne Jasperson talked about his time on the show.

When asked what he learned from his experience on So You Think You Can Dance, Thayne Jasperson said, “I feel like I learned so many dance styles and I learned what it is to be able to perform under pressure, to work hard, to not get any sleep and be able to pull out with a great performance. At least I tried, I guess.”

When asked if he thought the competition was harder because there were so many contemporary dancers, Jasperson said, “Well, actually I feel like it was harder because, I don’t know, there were a lot of contemporary dancers, which is true in the beginning, but there’s also been I feel like a big hip hop kind of – I don’t know what the word is there – a push on hip hop, I think. You know, which is great, but it is kind of hard because sometimes when you’re a contemporary dancer then they know that you’ve studied a lot of different styles, and so they kind of, they expect you to be able to pick it up quicker, which, you know, isn’t always true. I mean somebody who’s a hip-hopper can pick up faster than other contemporary dancers; I think it just depends on the kind of dancer you are.”

When asked if changing partners threw him off, Jasperson said, “Well, you know, it’s hard. The thing is it’s hard and it’s exciting, because it was fun at the same time to kind of have something new and a new challenge, but I guess I didn’t look at it as the way that America kind of looks and sees a couple together who they start to fall in love with, they love the idea of them being together, they want them to date, you know, and so they love the chemistry that they have together, where with us being new they kind of – it takes a little bit I think to kind of seep in first, and we – you know, I feel like Comfort and I had a really good chemistry together, but, you know, I guess it just didn’t show enough, because the judges told us so.”

When asked how he felt going into the results show, Jasperson said, “You know, the way that I felt is I had been reading this book that the mind is a powerful thing, so I thought, ‘Okay, I’m going to go into this with a completely positive attitude, with a mentality that whatever it is I’m going to take it on and I’m going to go hard.’ But at the same time, you know, I was nervous in the back of my mind because I had been in the bottom already three times, so I was like, you know, hoping that maybe this week would be different and America would kind of choose to vote for us and keep us out of the bottom. But I think I was scared and I felt like it was probably coming, so when they told us we were in the bottom I wasn’t surprised.”

When asked how he felt when he learned he was in the bottom three with Twitch and Will, Jasperson said, “Well, you know, I did feel that coming. As we found out who was on the bottom three I was like, ‘Oh crap, this is not a good one,’ because, you know, I’d been in the bottom already a few times before that, so with that I already knew I was at a disadvantage in the fact that I’d been in the bottom that long. So to me I just thought, ‘Okay, I’m going to go out there. I’m going to give them like hopefully the best solo I can do’ and try to get on my game and give them my best so that even if I did get cut, that I would go out and have people be able to say, ‘Wow, that was really a great dance,’ and hopefully see me as the kind of dancer that I want to be.”

When asked what he planned to do next, Jasperson said, “Next for me, I really want to be in movies and on Broadway.” Jasperson added, “I’ve always wanted to be in film and musicals. I love to sing and act and I want to take on those things, you know, with dancing. And then I would love to also go to Broadway and do shows and hopefully get like lead roles. That’s what I’m hoping.”
