To kick off the Nashville Star 6 season finale, the Nashville star judges introduced Melissa Lawson, Gabe Garcia, and Shawn Mayer. Host Billy Ray Cyrus and the top three finalists performed “Achy Breaky Heart.”
First up, Gabe Garcia sang “Celebrity.” Jewel said, “What a pleasure it’s been to get to know you over these nine weeks.” Next up, Melissa Lawson sang “My Wish.” John Rich said, “You’ve become more beautiful every week that’s gone by.” Finally, Shawn Mayer sang “Gunpowder & Lead.” Jeffery Steele said, “Can’t be more proud. Hope you win this thing, you’re my dark horse.”
In a taped segment, Blair Garner and George Jones visited with the three finalists. As the three finalists waited on stage, Billy Ray Cyrus announced, “The contestant who received the fewest votes last week and will be eliminated right now is Shawn Mayer.”
After Shawn Mayer’s elimination, Gabe Garcia and Melissa Lawson sang a duet of “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life.” After the duet, Melissa Lawson sang “Something More.” Jewel said “It’s been a pleasure to get to watch you sing.” Jeffery Steele said, “You’re here. You made it.” John Rich said, “You cannot practice and become the kind of singer you are. It’s a God-given gift. You are using your gift to the best of your abilities, and everybody is recognizing you for it right now.”
Next, Gabe Garcia sang “Gone Country.” Jeffery Steele said, “You were already country.” John Rich said, “It is so awesome to see you in the final two of this show.” Jewel said, “Gabe, again, I’m so proud of you.”
As Gabe Garcia and Melissa Lawson waited on stage, Billy Ray Cyrus announced, “The new Nashville Star is Melissa Lawson.” Melissa said, “It is not just me that just won this competition. It is everyone of you that voted for me. We won.” To close out the show, Melissa performed “What If It All Goes Right,” the song that will become her first single.
