The Extreme Makeover Home Edition team is going to Hawaii to renovate the home of the Akana family of Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to renovating the Akana family home, Ty and his team will also renovate the KOKA Family Learning Center, which the family has run for over eleven years.

The Akana family consists of Momi, her husband Ben, her three children, and their daughter. The children are fourteen year old Keahi, twelve year old Kuulei, eigtht year old Maka, and baby Poli. Momi Akana was a single mother on welfare when she started the Keiki O Ka Aina (KOKA) Family Learning Center. The center helps struggling moms and their kids.

At first, Momi and her family also lived in the KOKA center, but KOKA recently received a grant to purchase property for a new center. However, both the new property and the Akana home are in bad need of many repairs. A flood in 2004 washed away much of their house’s foundation, and Momi fears that the home might eventually fall into the river.

Ty Pennington and designers Ed Sanders, Eduardo Xol, Michael Moloney, Paige Hemmis and Paul DiMeo will work with local builder Brookfield Homes and hundreds of volunteers to rebuild the Akana family home and KOKA Family Learning Center. Extreme Makeover Home Edition airs on Sunday, August 10 from 8 PM to 10 PM ET on ABC.
