Jordin Sparks, American Idol winner had more to say than just thank you while on stage at the VMA award show. She defended the Jonas Brothers use of purity rings. British Comedian, Russell Brand made jokes about the Jonas Brothers and the use of their purity rings, suggesting that the boys should be using their celebrity status to win dates and apparently sex. Russell is well known for obsessively seducing women in England.

Jordan, who often speaks publicly about remaining a virgin, also wears a purity ring. She made a statement about the comments,”I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It’s not bad to wear a promise ring,” Sparks, 18, told the crowd, off-the-cuff, “because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut.”

The American Idol winner’s comments were met by an audible cheer from the crowd.

Russel returned to the stage afterward and gave a half-witted apology stating,”I didn’t mean to take it lightly,” he said about purity rings. “I don’t want to piss off teenage fans.” Still, Brand, whose apology soon morphed into a series of off-color jokes, said, “Promise rings, I’m well up for it, but a bit of sex, it never hurt anybody.”
