Jennifer Hudson Still Watches American Idol

September 09, 2008 11:00 AM by Paulene Hinds

Jennifer Hudson, former American Idol contestant and Oscar winner, said that everything stopped on the set of her new movie, ‘The Secret Life of Bees,’ while American Idol was on. She told ET, “Tuesday, Wednesday, I said, ‘I don’t wanna hear anything, I don’t care about anything else!’ Every Wednesday, I still get nervous, especially now, watching them. I know exactly how they feel because that’s elimination night and they want to win and they want to do well.”

You would think that after having Simon Cowell breathe down your neck each week as he critiqued you, that you would never get nervous again, but Jennifer said that she was very nervous and got the jitters as she went on stage to sing the national anthem at the Democratic National Convention last week. Even though she got dizzy and lightheaded during a sound check, due to the light air in Denver, she managed to knock em’ dead with her amazing performance.

Her new movie, ‘Secret Life of Bees’ will be released in theatres October 17. It is set in 1964 and is about a 14 year old girl, played by Dakota Fanning, who moves to a South Carolina town to learn the secrets of her late mother’s past. While there, she meets the Boatwright sisters, played by Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer who welcome her into their world of bee-keeping.

The three super star singers, kept things rocking on the set of the movie andQueen latifah and Aliciamade sure to keep Jennifer’s vocal cords tuned by asking her to sing requests on a daily basis.”Every day, they were like, ‘Sing this, sing something else!’” Jennifer says. “I was like, ‘Huh? Am I a jukebox?”
