Lauren Conrad, the infamous star of The Hills, has signed a three book deal with publishers Harper Collins. She will be writing a series of young adult fiction novels called “L.A. Candy.” The books are somewhat based on her transition from a regular girl to a recognizable one.
“It’s definitely influenced by my own life,” Conrad tells People. “The books are about a girl who moves to L.A. and stars in a reality show, so obviously there are some similarities . . . I’m not trying to do a fictional story based on all my friends in my real life because their stories aren’t really mine to tell. Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but it is in no way calling anyone out.”
Lauren also said, “I’ve always loved books that I could lose myself in, ones that would transport me to another place, but had characters I could relate to. I’m so excited to have this opportunity to write books like that for other readers.”
Harper Collins is excited about the new deal and the waves the news is creating in the literary world. A spokesperson from the company stated, “I’ve never seen a new project generate noise like the instant buzz that swept through our offices around this deal. The Hills and Lauren Conrad are household names among our staff.”
Harper Collins is correct in saying that the book deal is creating a lot of buzz, but not all of itis good. Many reports are saying that they cannot believe that the company would publish such garbage and do not feel that people will buy the books.
I guess we will have to wait and see for ourselves. The first book of the series will be released next summer!
