‘Ruby’ Weight-loss Show Will Debut On The Style Network

October 13, 2008 01:00 PM by Paulene Hinds

On Sunday November 9th at 8PM ET. ‘Ruby,’ a new reality series that will chronicle a 500-pound woman’s attempts to lose weight will premiere on The Style Network.

The nine-episode series will follow Ruby Gettinger, a Savannah, GA resident, as she struggles to lose weight after her doctor informs her that her obesity has become a matter of life or death. Ruby once weighed 700 pounds at her heaviest point.

In addition to Gettinger, the show will also focus on her friends and family including her nephew Jim, roommate Jeff, and best friend Georgia. Various doctors, dieticians, a psychiatrist, and a trainer will also help Gettinger as they teach her the effects her weight and bad food habits have had on her body, get her to exercise, and help her confront some childhood memory issues.

Ruby will be re-united with her old boyfriend during the season. He left her because she couldn’t lose weight and travel to Los Angeles tomeet with “old friends” trainer Billy Blanks Jr. and actress Brittany Daniel.

The Style Network ordered Ruby back in May. The series is being produced by Gay Rosenthal Productions, with Gay Rosenthal, Paul Barrosse, Tim Puntillo, and The Style Network executive Sarah Weidman serving as the show’s executive producers.

Daniel, who will also serve as a consulting executive producer, became friends with Gettinger when she was living in Los Angeles seven years ago.

“Ruby really wants to inspire people,” Daniel told The Hollywood Reporter back in May. “And she’s so entertaining and hysterical, so it’s going to be an inspirational but also a really fun show.”

I met Ruby in the summer of 1982 ,while visiting my cousins in Savannah. She was always the happiest person, she is one of the most positive people I have ever been around. Ruby, I wish you the best of luck and determination in losing the weight. I think style was so smart in choosing you for their program. You are such an awesome person inside and out. Although I was not heavy then, over the years I too have gained, and your show tonight has motivated me to lose and “get healthy”. Denised from Jacksonville Florida wishes you the best

Just watching one episode, Ruby seemed so inspirational and full of life. Even though she has one thing stopping her from living that Complete life, she really seems like she wants to change even if its a challenge. I look forward to watching the rest of her journey, and continuing my journey while thinking about her for inspiration. Ruby is a truly beautiful women and shouldn’t be thought any other way.

After just watching one episode, ruby seemed to be so full of life and beyond inspirational. She is a truly radiant and beautiful women and shouldn’t be thought any other way. She inspires me to continue my struggles with weight loss and to get healthy and feel better about myself. She has also taught me that loosing weight should only be for me and not anyone else. I am excited to watch the rest of her journey and to always keep her in mind through mine.

I loved watching Ruby she is inspirational. But I have moved to a small town in KY and have Sat. tv and the package I have does not allow me to watch Ruby. I cannot go up in price package and miss this show. I wish Ruby the very best she does a hard job with a smile and grace most people with weight issues would not be able to do. I hope sometime to get to watch her again when I get a free month for her style channel. Take care and God bless.
