Dancing With the Stars: The Lady Sings The Blues
October 21, 2008 07:59 PM by Paulene Hinds
Tonight on Dancing With The Stars, the show was nothing short of magnificent. Not only was the guest star fantastic, but Choreographers Rich and Tone had put together a huge performance number for the Macy’s Stars of Dance. The stage had been transformed for twenty six performers to “Dance Through The Decades.”
We got to see a back stage view of what the judges thought of the dancers routines last night. The biggest criticism was that Lance was taken over by Lacey this week and if he returns next week he will have to step up his skills.Their highest praise was forCody and Julianne and the judges said that they have done afantastic job for two weeks running and were now contenders.
Next week Len will have the week off as he is stretched from travelling back and forth with Bruno to Britain and Michael Flatlery (Lord of the Dance) will be a guest judge.
Cody and Julianne then came out and performed the judges choice Jitterbug. Their energy was incredible and she actually looked a little bit like Lucille Ball!
The Brian Setzer Orchestra thenperformed, “Rock This Town” accompanied by the show’s professional dancers Karina and Louis.
After last night’s show the stars ranked: Lance and Lacey and Cloris and Corky at the bottom of the leader board with 21.
Toni and Alec and Susan and Tony with 22.
Warren and Kym with 25.
Maurice and Cheryl with 27.
Cody and Julianne with 28.
Brooke and Derek at the top of the leader board with a season high of 29.
The first two couples safe this evening were; Warren and Kym and Cloris and Corky.
Samantha congratulated the two couples and joked with Cloris asking her if she had any hip hop moves. Cloris did a great Egyptian Princess move…I guess we will have to wait until next week forthe hip hop routine to see her shake her booty.
Since Cloris is safe this week, it looked like there was going to be an upset this evening!
The ballroom kids came out. Anthony and Alisa from Los Angeles California came out and performed a Jive to, “Daddy Takes her T-Bird Away.” Len thought that the dance was fantastic. Bruno said that it was great, sharp and clear. Carrie Ann said that she thought that their attitude was great and they have what it takes to make it in this town.
Mitchell and Maria were up next and they were from Philadelphia. They danced a Pasadoble to a traditional Spanish song. Carrie Ann said that they blew her away and danced together like a perfect duo. Len loved the shapings that they did and captured the flavor of the dance. Bruno said that he couldn’t believe the degree of sophistication.
The winners this week of the kids ballroom dance are Mitchell and Maria. They will be back to dance in the finals!
The Macy’s Stars of Dance “Dancing through the Decades” had 26 dancers performing routines from the 1930′s right through to the future. This performance was a showcase of dance put on its own pedestal and was the biggest performance ever on the show!
After the dance, Tom and Samantha then revealed two more couples that would be back next week; Cody and Julianne and Maurice and Cheryl.
That left Lance and Lacey, Brooke and Derek, Susan and Tony and Toni and Alec awaiting their fate.
Tom and Samantha then releaved the two couples that were safe and the two couples that were in the bottom two. Safe to dance once again are; Brooke and Derek and Lance and Lacey.
The couples in the bottom twowere Toni and Alec and Susan and Tony and tonight the couple with the lowest combined total and therefore leaving is Toni and Alec.
Next week, we’ll see all of the stars perform a group hip-hop routine (that alone was reason to keep Cloris around), and Michael Flaterly will be the “famous guest judge” on the panel to give Len a break.
