Lacey Schwimmer Has Endometriosis Too

November 01, 2008 02:00 PM by Paulene Hinds

Dancing With The Stars Pro, Lacey Schwimmer has been diagnosed by doctors as having endometriosis, the same condition as her competitor, Julianne Hough. Julianne had to undergo surgery this past Tuesday due to the condition.

Schwimmer, Lance Bass’s coach on the show, said that she learned that she has the condition on Wednesday.

“A few days ago, I started feeling very shaky, very weak, and I had awful cramps , I didn’t really know what was going on,” she told The Insider. “I went to go get checked out today and I actually have the beginning onset of what Julianne has. “It hurts very bad,” she said. “Right now I’m insanely weak, and the room is spinning.”

Endometriosis is a relatively common and often painful, medical condition found in 5 percent to 10 percent of women. It is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs, such as the appendix, in the pelvis or abdomen.

Luckily for Schwimmer, her condition was caught in time and she is able to control the progression of it without surgery.

“I have medication that is taking care of it,” she said. “We caught it at a very good time.”

When asked about her fellow dancer…Hough, Schwimmer said she is “doing great.”

“Julianne is in bed,” she told The Insider. “She has her boyfriend there, she has her mom, her sisters, her dog.”
