Jennifer Hudson Gives Her Mother A Goodbye Kiss

November 04, 2008 12:00 PM by Paulene Hinds

Jennifer Hudson spent a few minutes alone with her mother yesterday and gently touched her and kissed her as she said goodbye, the Chicago Tribune reported. She also spent time with her brother and nephew as they lay in their caskets.

The Oscar winning actress, attended the private service a day after a public service was held for Darnell Donerson, 57, Jason Hudson, 29 and Julian King, 7 at the Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church near their Chicago home. Her mother and brother were found in the family home shot to death and her nephew was found three days later and had died under the same circumstances.

The Reverend Jesse Jackson and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley both spoke at the service and American Idol season 3 winner, Fantasia Barrino sang a beautiful heartfelt rendition of “Your Grace and Mercy,” taking Jennifer’s hand and singing just for her.

After the funeral, a horse-drawn carriage led the funeral procession to the Oak Woods Cemetery on the South Side of Chicago.

To this date, no one has been charged with the murders, but the police still have William Balfour in custody as a “person of interest.”
