Past Dancing With The Stars Champ Will Go To Trial

The fifth season champion of Dancing With the Stars and two time Indy 500 winner, Helio Castroneves has found himself dancing from the ballroom into the courtroom. He is to appear in federal court on March 2, 2009 for one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States of income taxes and six counts of tax evasion. His sister and business manager, Katiucia Castroneves and Ohio-based attorney Alan Miller will face trial on similar charges, according to E! News.

Helio Castroneves pleaded not guilty to tax evasion and tax fraud charges last month. He is accused of fraudulently using an offshore corporation in the Netherlands to avoid paying income taxes on $5 million worth of licensing income from the IndyCar racing team he drives for; Penske Racing Incorporated between 2000 and 2002.

E! News reported that Castroneves also allegedly failed to report $550,000 worth of sponsorship income from Coimex, a Brazilian import and export company, between 1999 and 2001. He also allegedly filed six false federal income tax returns between 1999 and 2004.

Katiucia was also indicted on all seven countsand Miller was indicted on three counts of tax evasion.

If convicted, the three face more than 30 years in prison.
