It is almost here… American Idol will return with a brand new season and some changes in the format of the show, including a new judge, Kara Dioguardi! She will bejoining long standing judges, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson andPaula Abdul.The show will premiere with a two night, four hour premiere event on Tuesday, January 13 and Wednesday, January 14 at 8 PM ET on FOX.
FOX announced that the season will kick off with three weeks of audition episodes, featuring tryouts from all across the good old USA. The final audition episode will air Thursday, January 29 at 8 PM ET on FOX.
Next, American Idol will move onto the Hollywood Round where the contestants will vie for a coveted semifinalist position. This time the Hollywood Round will be extended for one week beginning Tuesday, February 3 and ending Wednesday, February 11where only 36 lucky contestants will remain as Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abduland Kara Dioguardiannounce the Top 36 semifinalists.
Beginning on Tuesday,February 17 andfor three consecutive weeks, 12 different semifinalists will perform in the hopes of getting one of the Top 12 spots. Each week during the LIVE results shows airing Wednesdays at 8 PM ET, the three finalists with the highest number of America’s votes — one male, one female and the next top vote getter — will secure coveted spots in the Top 12.
On Thursday, March 5, at 8 PM ET, the Wild Card episode returns featuring the judges’ favorite remaining contestants. After each of the contestants performs, the judges will select the three final contestants who will round out the Top 12.
Finally, on Tuesday, March 10, the Top 12 finalists take the stage for the first time together and immediately following, America begin to vote for their favorite finalists.
