American Idol: Canadian Idol Will Take A Hiatus in 2009
December 20, 2008 02:00 PM by Paulene Hinds

The Canadian version of American Idol is being put on hold next season. CTV announced that Canadian Idol won’t be produced in 2009 because of the slowing economy. The program finished its sixth season this fall and remained a Canadian TV ratings success. It scored an average of 1.47 million viewers in September.
CTV decided to not produce the costly reality show in a year when advertising revenues are expected to drop sharply. The show is not being cancelled permanently and CTV noted that international versions of American Idol took “rests” and returned for another season.
