American Idol: Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis In Ain’t Misbehavin’ Tour

American Idol season two winner, Ruben Studdard is starring in the the 30th Anniversary national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Ain’t Misbehavin’. Fellow American Idol performer Frenchi Davis is also in the production. The tour will make a stop in the New York City area at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx on May 16th, 2009.

Since winning the American Idol crown, Ruben Studdard has released three albums: Soulful, I Need an Angel and The Return.

Frenchie Davis, who made her Broadway debut in Rent was recently seen in Mahalia- A Gospel Musical. Frenchie Davis not only played Effie in a West Coast production of Dreamgirls, but she also performed in a professional productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Jesus Christ Superstar in Germany.

Ain’t Misbehavin’ is an original revue, based on the book by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby,Jr. and featuring the music of Thomas “Fats” Waller. The show originally debuted on Broadway in May 1978 at the Longacre Theatre. It won the 1978 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Featured Actress (Nell Carter) and Best Direction; and was nominated for its choreography.

The show featured such Fats Waller tunes as Mean to Me, Honeysuckle Rose, Black and Blue and the title tune, Ain’t Misbehavin’.

The original Broadway cast featured Nell Carter, Andre De Shields, Armelia McQueen, Ken Page and Charlayne Woodward.
