As one of the judges on American Idol, Paula Abdul has been part of trying to find the best undiscovered singer in America. Now, Paula Abdul is hoping to find the cheerleading squad with the most team spirit as part of Rah! Paula Abdul’s Cheerleading Bowl on MTV.
Rah! Paula Abdul’s Cheerleading Bowl is a ninety minute special. The show will feature American Idol judge and former Los Angeles Laker Girl Paula Abdul taking viewers inside the world of competitive cheerleading. Five collegiate squads that were hand-selected by Paula Abdul will appear on the show. The squads are from The Univeristy of Arizona, University of Hawaii, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, University of Montana and The University of Miami at Ohio.
“Rah is a project a lifetime in the making,” said Paula Abdul. “I wanted to share one of my greatest passions, in a unique and special format that celebrates the true spirit, creativity and athleticism that is cheerleading.”
“In cheerleading a squad has to have both physical stamina and the ability to use dance and music to put on a great show. The special offers a first-hand look at that unique mix of athletics and choreography and shows how much these teams put on the line to be amazing competitors,” said Tony DiSanto, who is Executive Vice President of Series Development & Programming for MTV. “As a former cheerleader, performer and choreographer, Paula has an incredible respect for squads everywhere and incredible experience with the music and moves a team needs to win.”
Paula Abdul will serve as host and coach on the show. The squads will compete in challenges with a distinct MTV edge. The squads will be critiqued by Abdul and a panel of judges and cheerleading experts. The squad will be judged on athletic ability, creativity and teamwork.
Judges include Hi-Hat, who was choreographer for Bring It On and Step Up 2: The Streets; Scott Bouchard, who is Head Coach for UMass Dartmouth; and Brenna Klinger, who is a New Jersey Nets dancer. The winning squad will receive a feature in American Cheerleader Magazine and a trip for their squad to attend MTV Spring Break 2009.
Rah! Paula Abdul’s Cheerleading Bowl will air on Saturday, January 3 at 12 PM ET/PT on MTV.
