The stock market is down. Home prices are plummeting. Layoffs are hitting hard. Consumer confidence is at an all time low. Is there anything that can save the economy? For one network at least, hope has arrived. The eighth season of American Idol will premiere on the FOX network tonight.
FOX is shaking things up a little bit for the eighth season of their money-making machine. For one thing, there is a new fourth judge named Kara DioGuardi that will be joining returning judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson. According to American Idol executive producer Ken Warwick, viewers can expect to see Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul sometimes gang up on Simon Cowell.
Another big change to American Idol is that the wild card element of the competition is coming back. After last season where some contestants who would have made for good television were eliminated too soon, the return of the wild card element is a welcome change to the show. The wild card episode of American Idol, where some contestants will get a second chance, is scheduled to air on March 5.
One thing that won’t be changing is that viewers can expect plenty of both good and bad singers to show up at the American Idol 8 auditions. The first three weeks of American Idol episodes will feature auditions, which took place in East Rutherford, New Jersey; Jacksonville, Florida; Kansas City, Missouri; Louisville, Kentucky; Phoenix, Arizona; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Francisco, California; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The American Idol 8 season premiere will run for four hours and take place over two consecutive nights. The first part of the premiere airs on Tuesday, January 13 from 8 PM to 10 PM ET/PT on FOX. The second part of the premiere airs on Wednesday, January 14 from 8 PM to 10 PM ET/PT on FOX.
