Can an animated cat inspire a whole generation of pop singers? Paula Abdul thinks so! The the off the wall, American Idol judge claims that she is the inspiration behind modern day pop singers such as Rihanna and Beyonce. You can check out the You Tube video below and decide for yourself!
Paula Abdul sold over 23 million records worldwide in the 1980′s, even topping the American charts before taking a break in 2000. In 2002, she found herself the lone female judge on the hit show American Idol and last year she entered the her music field again, launching a new album.
Paula Abdul believes that other hit artists have reaped the benefits from her long running career and her unique music videos, paving the way for their stardom today. She feels that her 1990 Opposites Attract video which features the cartoon creation MC Skat Cat, was a big influence on the world of pop music.
She says, “My videos stand the test of time. They are like the almanac for every performer. Even Rihanna has come up to me and said ‘I hope you don’t mind.’ And Beyonce. You can see the influence of what I’ve done. It’s really fun to see that I’ve left a mark. It was my idea to create an animated character. It takes a lot of focus, a lot time, and a lot of money.”
