January 25, 2009 08:00 AM by Joe Reality

On this week’s episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ty Pennington and his team visit the Tutwiler family in Fort Riley, Kansas. The Tutwiler family is living on a military base, because their home was devastated by a F4 tornado. Rock singer Gavin Rossdale makes a special appearance and performs at the reveal.

The Tutwiler family consists of husband Patrick, wife Crystal, and their four children. Patrick Tutwiler is an Iraqi war veteran, who was shot in the neck by an Iraqi sniper. After his injury, Patrick returned home with traumatic brain injury, PTSD, memory loss and speech problems. Within a year of Patrick returning home, the Tutwiler family home was struck by a F4 tornado.

During the tornado, Patrick and Crystal pulled their children into a closet and became human shield to keep their children safe. After the tornado, Patrick, Crystal, their four children, and a nephew lived on a military base together until Patrick was given his official military discharge.

Ty Pennington, his design team, local builder coalition A.F.M.C. Construction & Remodeling Inc., American Dream Development, Blixt Construction, L.C., Harris Custom Homes LLC, Ponton Construction Inc. and Ryan McDonald Construction, and hundreds of volunteers will work to build the Tutwiler family a new home. At the reveal for the new home, rock singer Gavin Rossdale will perform his hit single, “Love Remains.”

The design team consists of Paul DiMeo, Paige Hemmis, Michael Moloney and Ed Sanders. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs on Sunday, January 25 from 8 PM to 10 PM ET on ABC.
