Katherine McPhee was the fifth season runner up on American Idol in 2006 and was immediately signed by American Idol 19 Recordings Limited and Sony BMG’s RCA Records after the season finale of the hit Fox show. Her self-titled debut album, released in February 2007 dropped at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 the first week it was released selling 116,000, but the album sales declined drastically and by the end of December 2008, her debut album had sold a mere 375,000 copies in the USA. RCA confirmed that they had dropped Katherine McPhee in January 2008.
Now, the American Idol beauty is getting a second chance! According to Billboard, she has signed on with Verve Music Group and will beginrecording a new album, hoping to release it sometime this year. Verve Music Group president and CEO Bruce Resnikoff told Billboard, “The album she is working on will show many new sides to her talents as an interpreter and a songwriter, and show everyone just how special she is.”
Verve is best known as a jazz label, but it is part of a Universal Music Group which includes several other labels, including Verve Forecast, an adult music label; GRP, a contemporary jazz label; and Impulse!, a reissues label.
