Dancing With the Stars: Karina Smirnoff Suing A Restaurant For Unpaid Fees

February 04, 2009 05:00 PM by Paulene Hinds

Dancing With the Stars pro dancer, Karina Smirnoff, is suing a Mexican restaurant for not paying her fee last month at a March of Dimes benefit. According to TMZ, Karina Smirnoff claims that Panchito’s Restaurant owes her $6,000, the cost of her appearance fee, which they neglected to cover.

Due to the fact that the event was held for charity, the San Antonio restaurant claims that it made no profit, so it couldn’t compensate her. Panchito’s also insisted it never agreed to pay Karina Smirnoff anything for her appearance.

Karina Smirnoff’s attorney Michael Miller says, “They said, ‘It wasn’t a very good business deal on our part. We didn’t make any money on it, so we don’t have any money to pay her.”

An attorney representing the firm’s owner has declined to comment.

Karina Smirnoff underwent knee surgery this past Friday and is expected to return to Dancing With the Stars season 8 on March 9, on ABC. The celebrity cast list is going to be revealed on Sunday February 8 during ABC primetime.
