Last week, former American Idol contestant, Jennifer Hudson sang the national anthem at the Superbowl and now it is another American Idol contestants turn. Season 7 American Idol runner-up, David Archuleta will perform the anthem at the NFL Pro Bowl, which will be held this Sunday in Honolulu, Hawaii.
David Archuleta is really excited about it too and wrote in his MySpace blog, “It’ll be my first time in Hawaii!”He also seemed tobe quite happy about leaving the Utahwinter behind him toowriting, “That means more sunshine. Well, I hope anyway, at least more hanging out in warmer regions.”
David Archuleta doesn’t seem at all phased by the fact that he is following in Grammy winner, Jennifer Hudson’sfootsteps although he was indeed thrilled with her performance last week, which he was unable to see first hand due to a last minute commitment. He wrote in his blog, “I wasn’t able to watch it because I was speaking at a church fireside at the last minute around the same time.” He added, “However, on my way , I called my friend to listen to Jennifer Hudson singing , over the phone. It was so good! Jennifer has pipes! I watched it on YouTube later.”
David Archuleta willkick off his 20 city solo tour on February 20 in Virginia Beach. In August 2008 he released his first single, Crush, from his self-titled debut album. It is the highest-ranking debut single release of any American Idol contestant. His first album, released in November 2008, debuted at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and as of January 2009 it has sold over 610,000 copies in the United States alone.
