T.I’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go Premieres On MTV

T.I’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go follows Grammy-winning superstar T.I., as he begins the countdown to his approaching March 2009 sentencing for weapons charges. T.I. finds himself at a dynamic turning point in his life and his career. At the very top of his game, he’s facing up to 30 years of jail time for an arrest as a result of his earlier life.
Luckily, as part of an agreement worked out between his lawyers and the federal government, T.I. has the chance to reduce his sentence if he can complete a daunting 1000 hours of community service by March 2009.
At 27, T.I. now finds himself at both the highest and lowest points in his adult life. In the new documentary, T.I’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go, he’s seeking redemption in helping others avoid the same mistakes he’s made in his life. Each week, the title of the show will change to reflect the number of days remaining until his sentencing. The final episode is scheduled to air shortly after T.I’s fate is revealed.
In delivering his message to high risk teen-agers, he gives each of them a tough love lesson in life and shows them the consequences of what could happen if they continue down the wrong path in their current lives.
“MTV has always given artists a platform to get their stories and music out to their fans and this series reveals the unknown side of T.I. -one of the world’s greatest artists at the most precarious time in his life,” said Tony DiSanto, who is MTV’s Executive Vice President of Series Development and Programming. “In the face of impending incarceration, T.I is driven to ensure others do not make the same mistakes, and our cameras document every step along the road as he impacts and changes lives for the better. It is real-time redemption.”
T.I’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go will give a behind-the-scenes look at the most private and personal moments of T.I. The series will follow T.I. as he talks to school and community groups about how to avoid the life he has led and will follow a search for his personal redemption.
T.I’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go will document the birth of T.I.’s sixth child, the release of his “Paper Trail album, the release of his most ambitious, reflective and mature work to date, “Paper Trail”, and his work with a group of at risk teens. The series will also show how T.I. manages his personal life while completing 1000 hours of community service.
“We visited T.I early in 2008 while he was under house arrest in Georgia and found a man utterly unlike his rap persona,” said Ish Entertainment principals Stella Stolper and Michel Hirschorn. “He felt that he was undergoing a karmic reckoning, a time when he would have to balance the scales of his life and integrate who he was with who he is. We’ve never seen someone so introspective, so smart about who he was back in the slums of Atlanta is affecting who he is now.”
T.I’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go premieres on Tuesday, February 10 at 9 PM ET on MTV. Future episodes will air at their regularly scheduled time of 9:30 pm ET.
