American Idol: Jennifer Hudson Wins Three NAACP Awards

American Idol alumni, Jennifer Hudson walked away with three NAACP awards last night, the first for Oustanding New Artist. The National Association for ther Advancement of Colored People Image awards honors achievements by people of color in film, televison, music and literature.

Although Jennifer Hudson won her first image award for acting two years ago, she still seemed humbled by the standing ovation she received and said, “Now don’t start me to crying again, y’all. This is where we come from,so it’s always an honor to come home and feel welcome and to feel the love. I really cherish this and appreciate it.”

Jennifer Hudson, was nominated for seven awards. Besides her trophy for Outstanding New Artist, she also won Outstanding Album for her self-titled debut albumand Duo, Group or Collaboration for her duet with Fantasia on I’m His Only Woman.

Jennifer Hudson alsograced the stage one more time during the evening when she accepted the award with her cast mates for the Outstanding Motion Picture trophy for The Secret Life of Bees.
