On American Idol tonight, not only do we get to find out who the first three contestants are to make it to the top 12, but we get to hear two singers from the past perform a duet. Michael Johns and the oh so controversial Carly Smithson will sing a special duet, probably right before the third member of the top three are announced for American Idol Season 8.
The duo, who finished eigth and sixth respectively on American Idol Season 7 have not announced which song they will sing yet. When they broke the new to EW, they were still in talks with executive producer Ken Warwick. How did all this come about you might ask?
Michael Johns and Carly Smithson were actually around during Hollywood week and were filmed with the hopefuls as mentors of sorts as they tried to become the next American Idol. However, as we all saw, they were not ever shown on TV and it seems as if the powers that be behind the scenes of American Idol felt bad, so they hatched this plan to help showcase the young talent.
Michael Johns admits to being a bit nervous however about appearing once again before the judges to sing. He is likely to experience some good…and some not so good…flashbacks from a year ago. His new album hits stores at the height of the American Idolseason this year in May.
Both Michael Johns and Carly Smithson would be seen last week at Disneyworld helping to open the American Idol Experience. Hopefully their duet tonight is an experience that we won’t all soon be hoping to forget.
