Dancing With The Stars: A Season Of Relationships

February 18, 2009 11:00 AM by Paulene Hinds

Season 8 of Dancing With The Stars is being toted as the season of relationships with couples not only dancing as a team, but also against each other. The concept is new and interestingand co-host Samantha Harris took the time to dish on the upcoming pairs competiting.

“I think it’s going to be an incredible season for personalities to shine â⬔ and maybe even clash,” Samantha Harris told FOX 35 at The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection 2009 fashion show.

“Going into season eight, we see some big names in their respective fields,” Samantha Harris said, referring to the athletes, actors and musicians that will compete for the coveted mirror ball trophy this season. “Of course this is a season of relationships. We have three stages â⬔ from dating, to engaged, to married. So that’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out, and whether it’s working against each other or working as a team, like Julianne Hough and her boyfriend Chuck Wicks.”

In an interview with People magazine, pro dancer and country singer Julianne Hough has promised not to go easy on her beau Chuck Wicks who is also a country music singer. As the weeks go by and the competition heats up will Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks be able to stand the relationshiptest of being together 24/7? Even seasoned couples have had difficulties spending that much time together!

As for the couple competiting against each other on Dancing With The Stars, country music singers Jewel and her husband Ty Murray probably have a better chance of building their relationship over the next few months. A little competition makes the heart grow fonder, does it?

Thenewly engaged pro dancer couple, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy will alsocompete against each other this season as well, but they don’t really count in the relationshiptheme as they are professionals and have done this many times in the past. Even if they weren’t a couple before, their new relationship status is unlikely to effect their performance on the ballroom flooror their love life.

Julianne Hough doesn’t think that the pairings this season on Dancing With The Starswill be relationship killers andfeels that everything is going to work out just fine. She said that she is looking forward to spending more time with her manand as far as competing against the couple, Jewel who ispartnered with Dmitry Chaplinand Ty Murray who is partnered with Chelsie Hightower, they are all good friendsand “will definately be rooting for each other!”

The season premiere of Dancing With The Stars season 8 premieres March 9 on ABC. The first Dancing With The Stars results show airs on Tuesday, March 17 from 9 PM to 10 PM on ABC. The Dancing With The Stars season finale will air on Tuesday, May 19 from 9 PM to 11 PM ET.
