American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino is set to reprise her role as the lead character Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple. The show will open in Washington in June and will tour for five weeks.

Fantasia Barrino is the first American Idol winner to star on Broadway. She is a single mother and high school dropout from North Carolina, who rose to fame after winning the third season of American Idol in 2004.
Fantasia Barrino recently won the 2009 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Duo or Group for the duet I’m His Only Woman with Jennifer Hudson.
