March 09, 2009 07:40 PM by Paulene Hinds

Tonight we have an all new season of Dancing With The Stars. As you may have heard, the drama has already started before the season can even begin. Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris began the show tonight by introducing the new cast of the show. Only 11 of the seasons original competitors stood before the audience as Tom said that unfortunately Jewel and Nancy O’Dell had to leave. They told the viewers that the replacements would be revealed later in the evening.

First up tonight was rapper Lil’Kim and her pro partner Derek Hough. Lil’ Kim let the world know that the first time she ever watched Dancing With The Stars was when she was in prison and she watched it faithfully.

Derek Hough said that he would use her hip hop swagger to their advantage and may even incorporate it into their routine. Lil’ Kim dedicated her first dance to all her girls in prison. Their first dance was the Cha Cha.

Len said that it is the first night and the first dance and it was first class. Bruno said Lil’ Kim was nasty but tasty. Carrie Ann said that she thinks that Lil’ Kim has potential and to let it out.

Their scores tonight were 7, 7, and 7 a 21!

Belinda Carlisle was up next tonight. The lead singer of the Go-Go’s is dancing this season with Jonathan Roberts. Their first dance was the Waltz, a flowing dance with lots of spins. Belinda Carlisle seemed to have difficultly with the spins and was hoping to keep her balance as she danced tonight.

Bruno said Belinda looked like Julie Andrews on her first spin, but after that she looked like Cloris Leachman and needs to extends her slides. Carrie Ann said that unfortunately it wasn’t great and Belinda needs to trust her partner. Len said that overall they did see some grace and elegance in the routine.

Their scores 6, 6 and 5…17 for tonight.

As the season 8 premiere continued, two time Super Bowl champion and NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor is dancing with Edyta Sliwinska. He is fearful that he will look like a fool on the floor. They danced the Cha Cha.

Carrie Ann began and said that he didn’t live up to the other football players that have been on the show. Len said their style of the Cha Cha was lacking the crispness and sharpness it requires. Bruno said that it was so bad it was thrown away and he has to come out and perform.

They scored 6, 5, 5 a 16…boo!

Jackass star, Steve-O was next dancing…the Waltz??? His partner is none other than Lacey Schwimmer. If anyone can handle him the rebel of the ballroom can. Steve-O says even though he is sober he hasn’t lost his mojo and wanted to put his foot in the Waltz’s butt!

Len said that what he admired was he was really comitted, but techniqually he wasn’t quite where he should have been. Bruno said the dance did make him laugh and was entertaining. Carrie Ann said that she has mixed emotions with the beauty and shenanigans and his determination is inspiring to watch.

Their score was 6,5 and 6 a 17.

The next star steamed up the screen when he took a shower in the movie, Sex and the City. Gilles Marini is dancing this season with two time Dancing With The Stars champion, Cheryl Burke. Gilles is afraid he will be the least known celebrity on the show this season, but he is hoping that his partner will get him through that. They danced the Cha Cha.

Len said that it was a bit hectic, but his foot work was good. Carrie Ann said that she thought he was one of the most graceful men in the competition, but she nailed them for their LIFT!

Bruno said that Holly is easy on the eyes and that is a plus, and although she lost time a few times in the routine, there is hope for her.

They received triple 6′s an 18. Not bad for only 5 days to prepare.

Ty Murray, the King of the Cowboys and Jewel’s husband is dancing this season with Chelsie Hightower. Their first dance is the Cha Cha and Ty said that he is approaching it like riding a bull…you are never completely ready you just do it.

Bruno said thattheir dancelooked like an army drill more than a Cha Cha Cha…and then you got into a muddle…is it a bull is it a cow, I don’t know. Len said that part of the charm of the show is seeing people come out of their comfort level and try to dance and Ty did just that. Carrie Ann said that she thinks he is one cute cowboy.

They received 5, 4 and 5 ewww 14.

The youngest competitor ever on Dancing With The Stars is Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson who is dancing with Mark Ballas. Their first dance is the Waltz. Trying to be serious was making Shawn laugh and she didn’t want to show emotion becuase she was taught that emotion is weakness.

There scores were 8, 8 and 7 a 23.

Their scores tonight were 5, 4, 4 a 13.

Next on the floor was comedian David Alan Grierand pro partnerKym Johnson. Kym had difficulty getting his jokes at first, but soon realized David was in it to win it. They danced a Waltz tonight.

Bruno said some good lines at times, but when you are on hold you lean to much forward…keep one character at all times. Carrie Ann said that you have to be careful with the face and get it all together. Len said that there was far more good than there was bad and to keep his bum in. Carrie Ann had to jump in with…your foot came off the ground!

Their first dance is the Cha Cha.

Carrie Ann said you look terrified out there. Len said that you came out and gave a great shot at the dance. Bruno said that Denise has it all, but doesn’t know what to do with it, it is like acting…once you get on top of a performance you have to stay there.

They received triple 6′s an18 for tonight.

The final couple tonight was Nancy O’Dell‘s replacement. Melissa Rycroft from this season of The Bachelor. Sheis dancing with pro dancer Tony Dovolani. Their first dance is the Waltz. WOW…2 days and she was fantastic!
