Prosecutors are expected to rest their case today against the two-time Indy 500 winner and Dancing With The Stars champion, Helio Castroneves in aMiami federal court. The prosecution’s case against Helio Castroneves took nearly four weeks of testimony and included witnesses and documents showing Helio Castroneves moved money to off shore accounts to avoid paying U.S. income taxes of 5.5 million dollars.

Helio Castroneves defendants include his sister who served as his business manager and Michigan lawyer Alan Miller. If convicted of tax evasion and conspiracy, all three face more than six years in prison.

Helio Castroneves’ defense attorney contends that his client relied on experts to handle his finances and that he is innocent of federal tax evasion.

The defense will now present its case.

Helio Castroneves is currently being temporarily replaced on the race track by Australian driver Will Power. The new Indy Racing League season begins April 5.
