Never Too Much American Idol?

Will we ever get enough of American Idol? It seems everywhere you turn, you find something that has to do with the hit reality TVshow. Not only is American Idol dominating weekly television ratings and has done so for the past four years, but American Idol alumni are dominating the music charts, being interviewed in magazines and newspapers and appearing on radio and talk shows. President Obama even acknowledged American Idol on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno when he compared Washington to American Idol with everyone being like the bitter tongued judgeSimon Cowell.

You just have to look at the Billboard to charts to see the names of many of the contestants from the past.

The first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, had her new album at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart its first and second week in release. Kelly Clarkson appeared on American Idol two weeks ago and she just appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show this week.

Carrie Underwood has been nominated for four Academy of Country Music Awards, including being the only female nominated for entertainer of the year. Her current single, I Told You So, a duet with Randy Travis was sang by the pair on American Idol for Country Week. The song is climbing up the charts and is currently one spot away from the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot Country Songs singles chart.

Jennifer Hudson’s debut album received three nominations at the 2008 Grammy Awards. Her nominations included Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Spotlight”, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for “I’m His Only Woman” with Fantasia, and the coveted Best R&B Album for Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer Hudson performed at 51st Grammy Awards that took place on February 8, 2009 and won one award, Best R&B Album. She is now going on a United States tour featuring Robin Thicke in 2009

Season 7 American Idol winner David Cook, self-titled album, produced by Rob Cavallo, was released on November 18, 2008 and has since been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

The list of American Idol alumni on TV, in the news and hitting the music charts grows with each passing day and With all of the American Idol mania going on in the world it looks like our culture has become American Idol saturated and will continue to be for a very, very long time.
