Season 6 Dancing with the Stars Champion, Kristi Yamaguchi knows the toll it takes to perform an entire season on Dancing with the Stars. So, when it comes to this season and the injuries that have occurred this far, she certainly isn’t surprised.
“The injuries aren’t surprising,” Kristi Yamaguchi tells People magazine. “People don’t know how physical it gets. I think that’s one reason why athletes do well â⬔ they know how to listen to their bodies.”
Kristi Yamaguchi was in Los Angeles this weekend serving as an ambassador at the World Figure Skating Championships. When she was asked if there was any particular contestant that stood out as a possible winner she said that she sees gymnast Shawn Johnson, who is dancing with her former partner Mark Ballas, as having a serious shot at winning the mirror-ball trophy.
“Shawn is focused and as an athlete, she is used to taking direction and easily coachable,” says Yamaguchi. “Mark is having a great time working with her and she’s got great potential.”
Kristi Yamaguchi also sees Gilles Marini and Melissa Rycroft, who shared first place on the leader board with Shawn Johnson after last Monday’s dance, as contenders for the prize. “I think the front-runners are Melissa, Gilles and Shawn,” she says. “Lil’ Kim and Chuck [Wicks] are dark horses.”
