On tonight’s episode of American Idol, the topeight will be performing songs from the year they were born. Most of our idols were born in the 80′s, which means the night couldend up beingfabulously wonderful or a complete disaster. There is a span of about ten years between some of the contestants, so does that put certainidols ata disadvantage? We’re going to take a look at what years the top eight were born andwhat some ofthemmight be singing….
Danny Gokey, the oldest contestant, was born in 1980.Possible options for Danny could be: You May be Right or It’s Still Rock n Roll to Me by Billy Joel, which would suit his soulful voice, Heartache Tonight by the Eagles, or Stand By Me by Mickey Gilley.
Adam Lambert, the second oldest contestant, was born in 1982. Good choices for Adam’s voicemight be: Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks or Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Lil Rounds is next up, being born in 1984. Lots of good possibilities for Lil, including What’s Love Got To Do With It by Tina Turner, Let’s Hear It For The Boy by Deniece Williams, and I’m So Excited by The Pointer Sisters. Soley based on my fond memories of Saved By The Bell, I hope she picks I’m So Excited.
Now we move on to a busy year: 1985. Scott McIntyre, Kris Allen, and Matt Giraud were all born in this magnificent year. Knowing Scott, he’ll probably go with something like You’re The Inspiration by Chicago or One More Night by Phil Collins. Let’s hope not. Kris Allen, on the other hand, could blow us away with a rendition of Heaven orSummer of 69 by Bryan Adams. Let’s hope so. Finally, Matt Giraud, we’ve got Part Time Lover by Stevie Wonder or the Boys of Summer by Don Henley. Tons of good options for the ’85ers – no excuses!
Anoop was born in 1986, and as far as he goes there are a couple songs that might suit him. First, Broken Wings by Mr. Mister, If You Leave by OMD (this would make me very, very happy), Who’s Johnny by El DeBarge, and No One Is To Blame by Howard Jones. Lastly, we have Allison, the baby of the group, who was born in 1992! This is a bit trickier, but some options would be Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover by Sadie Hawkins, I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt, or Mysterious Ways by U2.
Be sure to tune in tonight to see what the idols will choose. Hopefully, it won’t be a bunch of horrible songs we’ve never heard of!
