Tonight on FOX’s American Idol, the Top 7 finalists take on ‘music from the movies’ under the watchful eye of none other than Quentin Tarantino! Ryan Seacrest points out that the band is up on the stage tonight, and then introduces judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell. Ryan says it’s kind of a historic night. Simon clarifies that because they went over time last week, tonight, the judges can only talk two at a time! He blames it on Paula and Kara talking too much the previous week! The contestants are brought out, and a montage of Quentin Tarantino’s movies rolls, as well as the tape of the seven contestants meeting him on the FOX soundstage earlier in the week! Quentin is watching from the audience tonight – and will chime in when he sees fit!

Allison Iraheta is singing an Aerosmith song, Don’t Want to Close My Eyes, tonight. Dressed in a black top with red belt and red pants, Allison begins uncharacteristically softly, before bumping it up a notch to her usual raspy intensity! The audience goes wild as she finishes! Paula tells her she has a special quality – she’s authentic. Simon calls the performance hot and spicy, and says he feels that she is the girls’ only hope left in this competition! He says she could go through to the end!

Anoop Desai is singing Everything I Do, I Do For You by Brian Adams tonight on Idol. Quentin Tarantino strongly suggested that Anoop rough it up! Dressed in a shirt, tie and jacket, Anoop takes the stage and delivers a version of the tune full of nuances and held notes. It’s one of his better performances. Randy Jackson tells ‘Anoop Dog’ that he was worried about his song choice, but he thinks he found his zone! He did a really good job! Kara says he’s definitely found his place – pop songs with soul added to them! She says she felt connected to him.

Adam Lambert is up next singing Born To Be Wild from Easy Rider. Quentin Tarantino tells him he looks forward to seeing what he’s going to do to his songs each week! Adam jokes, “Me too!” Dressed in a black leather jacket and jeans, Adam performs a sped up and thrashy version of the well-known song, complete with a screaming heavy metal high note ending! The crowd goes insane! Paula Abdul tells him to take it all in, and that he dares to dance in the path of greatness – he’s one of the bravest contestants ever! Simon jokes that he needs to learn to express himself more! He then says the vocals were excellent, but the downside is that it was a bit like watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show at times – half the audience won’t like it – last week was probably better and more current!

Matt Giraud is set for his turn on Idol next. He tells Ryan Seacrest that working with Quentin Tarantino was great – he has tons of energy! Matt is hoping for an emotional connection with the audience tonight, and will sing Have You Ever Loved a Woman by Brian Adams. Dressed in a shirt, tie, and vest, Matt plays the piano as he gets the crowd clapping along with his heartfelt rendition of the song. He hits a couple of off notes, but overall is good. Randy says it was an interesting performance – a bit rough in spots – he has to remember not to try to do too much with a song. Kara agrees – it’s the struggle between whether to do a rock song or soul song.

Danny Gokey will be the next Idol finalist to perform. He tells Ryan that he just bought a new guitar this week! He won’t be using it quite yet though. Danny is singing Lionel Ritchie’s Endless Love tonight. He is dressed in jeans and jacket, and begins the tune by perching on a stool, but stands up and approaches the audience as he finishes the song. Paula tells him he’s magical and it was beautifully done. Simon Cowell says he’s disappointed that it was such a traditional version, but having said that, he recognizes that it was a personal song and he congratulates him for doing it because it was hard for him.

Falling Slowly is the song that Kris Allen has chosen to sing tonight. He is dressed in a grey jacket and jeans, and seems to thrill the audience with his version of the tune, accompanied by violins! Randy tells Kris that, for him, it never quite caught on – and was pitchy from note one. Kara says that, for her, it was one of his best moments! The audience cheers!

Lil Rounds is the seventh, and last, contestant to take the American Idol stage tonight. She sings The Rose by Bette Midler. With longer hair, and wearing a black outfit accented by a large belt, Lil gives a gospel-style version of the song, with a soft ending. Paula says it was a beautiful song. Simon says it was too soft, too middle-of-the-road for her – she’s not the artist that they saw in the beginning and he’s getting frustrated. Lil defends her song choice and her arrangement of it.

Ryan Seacrest ends the show by announcing that tomorrow night the live American Idol result show will feature Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson!
