There was some trepidation last week over using the judges’ save on Scott MacIntyre, but this week the American Idoljudges were unanimous when they spared 23 year oldMatt Giraud from elimination. The bad news, as Simon Cowell put it ever so delicately, is that two people will be leaving next week… and it’s disco week. Find out what Paula Abdul had to say in her interviewon theRyan Seacrest radio show…
Paula says that Simon was apprehensive about using the save on Matt. “For a minute there, I thought we were going to have to duke it out. We couldn’t let Matt go…It was so frustrating and nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time,” she explained.
Ryanrecalls the moment when Matt was told he was safe and tears came to his eyes, Paula says, “Wasn’t it amazing? The entire sound stage started clapping and chanting ‘Save, save!’ It was almost like a finale, a sporting event. It was so exciting.” Although Simonannounced thatMatt that he doesn’t have any chance of winning, Paula says that may turn in his favor because fans might feel sorry for him.
Ryan also asked Paula about a little rumor that is circulating, where Simon supposedly asked the producers to put “better lighting” on him. “It’s absolutely true,” she said. Oh, Simon. You look exactly the same on every episode,on every show, on every day of the year. What is different lighting possibly going to do for you?
