The Biggest Loser Sends Home A Tough Competitor
April 21, 2009 07:56 PM by DA Southern

The Biggest Loser Couples, fresh from their makeovers and the dismissal of Laura from the ranks, starts to ebb towards the finale as the final six Losers look to position themselves for the home stretch as they train hard at saying above the yellow line. With Mike and Ron the only actual couple left in the competition, it will be interesting to see if they can save each other, if need be, as the finale looms near.
The six remaining Losers were sad to see Laura go but were glad to have dodged a bullet in the elimination. The Losers all started to assess the overall situation and the game play to get to the finale has begun in earnest with all of the Losers thinking of the different scenarios needed to get to the end. With Tara sobbing at the loss of her partner, Jillian blew a gasket when Tara was crying about not being able to make it to the end without Laura.
Bob came in to give his team a pep-talk and told the Losers that they all had three weigh-ins remaining to get themselves to the finale. Kristin seemed bummed at falling below the yellow line and was doubting her ability to make it to the end, or if she was really worth it. After a session with Bob, Kristin’s attitude changed as she decided that she was indeed worth it and was determined to get to the end.

The Losers all gathered with host, Allison Sweeney and Good Housekeeping Editor, Rosemary Ellis, who explained that it was fitness and food trivia contest that they were participating in. Rosemary explained that the winner would be treated to a three day, all expense paid trip to the Big Apple for a visit to Good Housekeeping Magazine and, of course, money to have some fun. The questions were ones that the Losers should have gotten fairly easily but at the end of the four questions, Mike and Kristin were tied, with the tie-beaker coming down to a fast food question, which Mike easily won, sending him to New York City after the show ends when he guessed that a fried fish sandwich had 635 calories and was only off by 5 calories, when it was announced that the sandwich had 640 calories.
The main challenge was a scary one as the Losers were going to be suspended forty-five feet up in the air in a cage and the task was to keep themselves up in the air with 10,000 dollars hanging in the balance or a one pound advantage at the next weigh-in.

Several of the Losers were freaking out just being lifted into the air and Tara was already defeated before she began. Mike quit early as he didn’t like the heights and Ron, for the first time, seemed confident in the prospects of winning knowing that he had some upper body strength that would help. The Losers started to play some serious head games with Filipe leading the way. Ron made a hand adjustment and was the next one out, not by choice, and Filipe continued to torment the girls by shaking the rig.
Filipe’s fooling around sent him plummeting down ending all of the joking around, leaving the three girls to compete. Kristin lost her concentration and Tara and Helen were dangling for the final showdown. Helen was bargaining with Tara for her to stay and Tara was having nothing of it and once again, Tara, reigned supreme at the challenges when Helen lost her grip and Tara was leaning towards the one pound advantage, knowing that every pound counted at the weigh-in.

Bob was now watching the video food journal that his Losers had prepared and he was shocked as to the Losers total caloric intake as he saw that the Losers had seemed to miss the point of nutrition as they focused on low calories and not having enough protein in their diet.
Last Chance Workout was as brutal with Jillian and Bob as the intensity of knowing that the finale was so close that they all could taste the prize at hand. Mike, Helen and Tara were dying on the treadmill as Jillian was as steely-eyed as we had ever seen her as she told her three warriors that, at this point, it was not just about them anymore but the millions that looked at them for inspiration and they need to be exceptional from this point on. Nothing like pressure, right?

Jillian got under Mike’s skin so hard that all of the insecurities of being an overweight teenager finally erupted to the surface sending Mike to discuss it with the situation in their family with his father, Ron, after the Last Chance Workout. Mike talked to Ron about the anger he felt over everyone in his family being over weight and why Ron and his mother had allowed it to happen and the plans they were going to implement to change the family dynamic.
The Weigh-In
Alison started off by talking about how records had been broken and immediately quizzed Tara about the money vs the pound and Tara shocked everyone when she took the $10,000 thinking that she had done pretty well in the gym this week.
Tara lost 5 pounds for a 2.75% weight loss
Ron lost 4 pounds putting him under 300 pounds for the first time since he was a teenager for a 1.32% weight loss.
Helen lost a disappointing 1 pound for a .62% weight loss
Mike lost 8 pounds for a 3.29% weight loss
Filipe lost 3 pounds for a 1.21% weight loss
Kristin gained a pound, which sent her and Helen below the yellow line for a tough elimination.
The four remaining Losers had to deliberate and, in the toughest decision to date, it was not clear except as to whom Ron and Mike would vote for as a block as they had always done. Helen was so distraught, but she at least lost weight instead of gained for the week, which definitely put Kristin in a tougher position, especially since she had beenThe Biggest Loser as a woman. Ron agreed to protect Kristin saying that he would talk to Mike about his vote, relishing the Godfather role he had ascended to.

In a shocker, the Godfather made his plans to stay true to Kristin but take her out as a threat to his son because, well, no one goes against the family, by forcing a tie and sending Kristin home because her percentage was the lowest. Very nice Godfather move, Ron.
With the hit in place, Tara voted off Kristin; Filipe voted off Helen; Ron voted off Helen and Mike, being the swing vote to force the tie, followed the Godfather’s wishes forcing the tie and sending Kristin home. Kristin had the final say by telling Mike he took the coward’s way out and also saying that the fix was in by the Godfather.
Kristin lost 116 pounds in sixteen weeks at the ranch and it was nice seeing her mom, Cathy, again when she arrived home. Kristin was excited to see how she had inspired others in her family and community to lose weight and was now involved in speaking to groups about her journey onThe Biggest Loser and was excited to say that since leaving the ranch, she has lost a total of 132 pounds.
