Kris was thentransported to thelocal Fox affiliatewhere heparticipated in an evening of interviews and honors, followed by a day of performances.
“It’s great to be back,” Kris told PEOPLE. Although Kris was only able to spend a brief time back home, it gave him the boost he needed for the finals. While in Arkansas, Kris was also presented with the keys to the cities of Little Rock and Jacksonville. “It’s a lot of pressure, but it’s a lot of fun, too,”Kris said. “It’s definitely more than I expected.”
Kris played for an audience of a couple thousand at the Little Rock riverfront amphitheater and then for an audience of 1,200 in his hometown of Conway. Alexis LaPlante, who attends church with Kris, said, “You can tell from the way he sings and acts that he’s very humble and a good Christian.” Kris responded, “I grew up that way. My parents raised me that way. It’s not trying to push God on people, it’s just being who I am.”
Finally, Kris headed to a park where there were approximately 20,000 people and he serenaded them with Man in the Mirror, Softly, and Works Hard. “He’s got the prettiest smile, and he’s just a nice person,”said a fan as he exited the stage.”He deserves every bit of this.”
