According to Slashfood, American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, is teaming up with British chef Jamie Oliver to give America’s fattest cities a food makeover. ABC has ordered six episodes of the reality TV series, where Oliver will travel to the unhealthiest places in the country and work to improve the residents’ diets. Keep reading for full details…
Oliver, who is best known as BBC’s Naked Chef, has become familiar with reality TV shows. He did a four-part documentary called Jamie’s School Dinners, where he worked with schools and government officials to improve school lunches. Then he did Jamie’s Ministry of Food, where he helped the residents of Rotherham, South Yorkshire to cook simpler, more healthy meals.
Oliver told Slashfood last fall, “When our kids go to school, they should get a half decent meal. They should learn how to batch cook, make a basic stew and love a salad. The most powerful thing is the basic life skill of taking care of yourself. My job is to make agriculture look entertaining. We live in a time when most people don’t know where their food comes from. If you give them credit and let them know they’ll shop better. Small nuggets of information can change lives.”
Seacrest, who will be producing the series, says that as a formerly chubby child, he is interested in this project. He said, “I’m a firm believer that the fuel we put into our body results in a healthy lifestyle. Jamie’s going to come over here, roll up his sleeves and use the resources of each town to help condition living habits to make it a better and healthier place.”
