As reported inthis articleon ComingSoon.net, it has been confirmed by a Paramount spokesperson that Dancing With The Starsprofessional Julianne Hough is currently screen testing for the female lead in theupcoming remake of Footloose. According to the article, the film’s producer, Neil Meron, told Entertainment Weekly that “It’s a much more singing-intensive movie for the female lead.”Although thefilm has been rewritten, it will resemble the original film, which will be take place in a dance-free town and might have possible appearances by the original cast. Merlin added, “It’s not really a burst-into-song musical. Any songs that are sung are coming out of an organic place.”
“The classic hit songs from the movie will be sung,” added producer Craig Zadan,who also helped produce the 1984 version. “There will be new songs that will be written by new artists, and those will be soundtrack songs.”
Footloose, directed by Kenny Ortega and starring Chace Crawford, is set to start shooting in March of 2010.
